Infant Program at Tenney Preschool
Tenney Preschool is expanding our licensed programming to include infant care, supporting families during the earliest and most critical years of development. This expansion responds to a growing need for high-quality, relationship-based infant care in Madison and reflects Tenney’s long-standing commitment to serving children and families across the early childhood years.
For nearly 50 years, Tenney has been a trusted part of the Tenney-Lapham community and beyond. Our infant program builds on that legacy, extending our care to families during a formative stage while remaining rooted in our cooperative, relationship-centered model.
Our Approach to Infant Care
We believe infants thrive when they are known deeply, cared for consistently, and supported within responsive relationships. Our infant program is designed around small-group care, predictable routines, and attentive caregiving that honors each child’s individual needs and rhythms.
Care is guided by respect for infants as capable individuals and by an understanding that emotional safety and secure attachment are the foundation for all learning and development. We prioritize continuity of care, calm transitions, and close partnerships with families to support infants’ social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.
What a Day Looks Like
Infant care at Tenney is intentionally flexible and individualized. Rather than following a rigid schedule, caregivers respond to each child’s cues for feeding, sleeping, play, and care. Daily experiences include time for floor play, sensory exploration, language-rich interactions, and quiet moments, all within a predictable and nurturing environment.
Our goal is to create a setting that feels steady, calm, and responsive, where infants feel safe to explore and families feel confident their child is being cared for with intention and respect.
Family Partnership
Families are central to Tenney’s community and to our infant program. We view caregiving as a collaborative relationship and value families’ knowledge of their children. Ongoing communication helps ensure continuity between home and school and supports infants as they grow and develop.
Enrollment and Next Steps
Enrollment for infant care is managed through a waitlist. Families interested in learning more are encouraged to reach out, schedule a tour, or inquire about the waitlist process. We are happy to share updates as the program continues to move forward.
